Microsoft to end support of Windows XP and Office 2003 - 2012-09-12

Microsoft has announced that it will stop providing support for Windows XP and Office 2003 on April 8, 2014. While that may seem far into the future, the average deployment of new operating systems and software can take from 18 to 32 months. If we haven’t contacted you already regarding the migration, we will be soon.

Why is this happening?
Software vendors like Microsoft have Support Lifecycle Policies which allow them to support programs for a definitive amount of time – Microsoft’s products receive 10 years of support (5 years Mainstream support and 5 years extended Support). Without this policy, Microsoft would still be supporting every software package they ever released, the cost of which would be astronomical.

What does this mean for you? “End of support” means that after April 8, 2014, there will be:
·         No new security updates
·         No non-security hotfixes
·         No free or paid assisted support
·         No online technical content updates
Continuing to run these non-supported programs may expose your company to security and compliance risks – Microsoft will NOT provide any new security fixes, which leaves you vulnerable to attacks and breakdowns.

Do you need new hardware for the new software?
If your current PCs meet the system requirements for Windows 7, you won’t need to upgrade your hardware. However, this may be a good time to look closely at your technology to determine if it can support your future growth and take advantage of the latest productivity and collaboration tools. We will be happy to perform a free system audit which will help you make the right decisions regarding your technology requirements.

What are your options?
We will recommend the best solutions based on your technology needs. With Windows 8 and Office 2013 just around the corner, now is a great time to take advantage of the latest technology trends. We look forward to meeting with you and discussing the exciting new options – whatever the product, Benson & Associates is committed to ensuring you have the right tools to help your business thrive.

If you have any questions regarding the end of service for Windows XP and Office 2003, or any other topic, call our Helpdesk at (403) 247-1664 or visit our new website at www.bensonit.ca

Sincerely,

Benson & Associates
